I signed up for thesixtyone.com a few whiles back and have been positively surprised. It’s the first site I’ve seen that can be considered a “Flickr for music.” It’s aimed at independent artists and the community is delightfully active. There were a few nice ideas too:

  • Artists cannot give “hearts” to other artists, only listeners. This eliminates a lot of stupidity found in many sites.
  • There are no “fans” or “friends” per se, but if you’ve given hearts to a song, the artist’s new songs will appear on your feed.
  • The people who have given most hearts to an artist appear on a “top 10″ list on their page.
  • The first person to listen to a new song gets a “discovered by” credit, which is one way to lengthen one’s virtual penis.
  • You can sell your songs for $1 (from which t61 takes 30%)

They are definitely on the right track.

I also tried to delete my mikseri.net account, but couldn’t find any way of doing that. I should delete my myspace account too. Don’t go down with a sinking ship.

Did I just use “per se” back there? Ugh.
